DRIVING PERMIT: Mandatory

It is a requirement of the Government of Zanzibar that all foreign drivers obtain a local driving permit. This applies even if the driver holds an International drivers license. The cost is US$10.00 per driver.

Zanzibar Car Hire will arrange for your Zanzibar Driving Permit. This can be processed in advance. After making a confirmed booking, please simply download and complete this form and submit with a scanned copy of your National Driving License and we will process this for you.

We are able to arrange driving permits with only 2 hours notice if you are making a last minute booking. Note: applies during licensing authority office hours 0900 – 1600 daily only.

DRIVER:
The hirer and/or authorized driver must be over 23 years of age and under 70 years of age. The hirer and/or authorized driver must have held a full and valid driving license for a minimum of 2 years up to and including the time of hire.

That license must bear no current endorsements during the last two years.

The hirer and/or authorized driver must also be in possession of a proper means of identification other than a driver’s license.

INSURANCE:
All our vehicles are comprehensively insured. Rental car insurance will include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). The first $400.00 of any damage is payable by the hirer.

Insurance is invalidated for reasons such as overloading, operating the vehicle illegally, while under the influence of banned / prohibited substances, and in prohibited areas.

Insurance cover does not include the personal consequences/damages occurred to the renter.

Personal property is not covered – You must insure this yourself. Personal Insurance, Medical Insurance or Travelers’ Insurance, or any other kind of Insurance not included with the Vehicle Rental. Personal Insurance Policy can be issued to the Insurance company or Agents if the need arises.

FUEL POLICY:
All vehicles have a minimum amount of fuel at the commencement of the period and should be returned in the same state. If you return the vehicle part full, you will not be reimbursed for fuel at the end of the period. Rental does not include any fuel allowance unless specifically agreed with us in writing before the commencement of the rental period.

SECURITY:
The vehicles must be locked when unattended. The hirer is responsible for the security of the vehicle. It’s YOUR responsibility to make sure the car is parked safely in hotel car parks under watchmen during the night. Most places provide watchmen and car parks.

PAYMENT:
To ensure vehicle availability, it is recommended that you book and pay in advance for your vehicle, through our secure payment portal. Otherwise, the full price of your reservation is paid at the time you take the car. PICK UP / DROP OFF Airport / Sea Port / Stone Town area pick up and drop off free of charge. Delivery can be made to different resorts and hotels on the island, please ask for quotation.

DO YOU NEED A DRIVER?
US $20 per day (if required). Drivers allowance & fuel is not included in these rates. Drivers working hours are from 0.7.00 to 18.00 hrs. There is an overtime charge of US $5 per hour after 18.00hrs.

CAR HIRE AGREEMENT:
In the case of extra time the renter will have to pay 10 US$ per hour.

The vehicle must be driven only by the renter or authorized driver. No other drivers are permitted.

The vehicle may only be driven on authorised roads and vehicle ways. It is illegal to drive on the beaches of Zanzibar.

The responsibility for security of the vehicle will be that of the renter for the period of the contract.

If the renter breaks the contract He/She will be required to pay 50% of the agreed total cost. The company can break the contract at any time if it is proved that the renter is not keeping the vehicle in good condition, driving carelessly or has caused other intentional damage.

Any damage caused by carelessness must be paid for by the renter.

Fuel and driving permit are not included in the price.

Mechanical failure is our responsibility and you will be given a replacement vehicle in the event that your vehicle can not be repaired at the roadside.

Free Mileage – 100kms per day.

GENERAL ADVICE AND GOOD TO KNOW:

We meet our guests at their requested pick-up location with named signboard. Do alert us to your arrival terminal at Zanzibar Airport.

It is imperative to move out of the way of emergency vehicles including ambulance, officials, police, and military demanding right of way.

Do take a photograph of your local drivers permit or your international drivers license in case of loss of the original.

Parking tickets / parking fees paid, do keep the receipts.

Travelling at night? It is advisable to keep the doors locked.
